Students must meet the department’s standard for admission to the major
(minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA at the University of Utah) as demonstrated by official
transcripts and have to successfully completed PYCH 1010 or equivalent with a C or
better. Students meeting this criterion will have to register with the Department of
Psychology and declare their intent in written form to pursue the Certificate in Human
Factors.
The Human Factors Certificate
requires a minimum of 20 credit hours beyond these entry requirement with PSYCH
3000 (Statistical Methods), PSYCH 3010 (Research Methods), PSYCH 3171 (Human
Factors), PSYCH 3172 (Engineering Psychology), and PSYCH 4800 (Research
Experience) as required courses and at least another 3 credit hours of specific electives as
specified below.

- All courses counting toward Certificate requirements should be completed with a grade of C or better.
- Please note specific prerequisite course requirements as listed in the University of Utah Course Catalog (Psych 3120 and Psych 3150 have Psych 1010, Psych 3000 and Psych 3010 as prerequisite courses).
- All courses that a student wishes to have evaluated as equivalent to any of the above courses should be submitted to the Psychology Advising Center (507 Beh S) with a copy of the course syllabus.
- Research Assistance (Psych 4800) is taken as CR/NC. Students completing this requirement must complete 3 hours of work per week during the course of the entire semester per credit hour earned (i.e. 3 credits = 9 hours of work per week).
- When applying for admittance to the Certificate Program one must submit an application with a current copy of a transcript or DARS. Applications may take up to a week to process.
- With the exception of Psych 1010 and Psych 3000, classes taken over 10 years ago do not fulfill Certificate requirements.
