Macromedia Webplayer (Full Version) Download Tutorial

We suggest you print out this tutorial and refer to it as you down load WebPlayer

Macromedia Webplayer is necessary to run the Authorware presentations that are recommended as part of the learning process in this course.

To install Macromedia Webplayer you will have to download the software, install it, and then restart Netscape to take advantage of the new functionality.

From the Set up your computer page or the Resource page, click on one of the two Macromedia WebPlayer (Full Version) [PC]--[MAC] links. Of course, click PC if you have a PC or click MAC if you have a MAC

When you arrive at the Macromedia site, click on the DOWNLOAD NOW button (as shown in the image below). NOTE: Internet Explorer and Netscape will act differently after you press "DOWNLOAD NOW" so read ahead in the tutorial text below the image so you will know what to expect for your browser.

Tutorial for downloading with Internet Explorer: The Macromedia site has text that describes what will happen if you use Internet Explorer when you download. The process is very simple; just follow these instructions:
"1. Click the "Download Now" button to begin installing Macromedia Authorware Web Player. 2. Read and click through any dialog boxes that appear. 3. When the Macromedia Authorware Web Player movie begins playing, your installation is successful."

Tutorial for Downloading with Netscape: The text on the Macromedia site doesn't describe very well what happens when downloading the WebPlayer with Netscape. We suggest you follow our tutorial below. It's a pretty simple process.

A few moments after you press "Download Now" your computer will show you a Dialog Box, asking where you would like to save the download file.

Stop and Notice! You can save the download file wherever you want; but what is essential is to make a note of where you save it. We suggest that you put it on your hard drive (also called your 'C' drive on PC's) in the TEMP folder. It should be easy to find your TEMP folder later (see graphic below). Also notice the name Macromedia gives to this file. For example, on a PC for the version current on May 12, 2000, the file is named authorwarewebplayerfull.exe. On a MAC and for a different version the file name will be slightly different.

There is nothing complicated here; it's just that you have to find this downloaded file in a couple minutes and that's a lot easier to do if you know its name and where it is.

Once you note where you are saving it and what its name is, click on SAVE.

After the file is downloaded, navigate to the directory where you saved the file and double click on the file's icon to install Web Player on you computer.

The Installer will run, follow the directions, clicking next or cancel at the bottom.

The install will ask which browser software to configure to. Webplayer has been designed to run with Netscape Navigator 3.0 or greater. But note that this online course is designed to work best with Netscape Communicator 4.7x or greater.

The install will ask you where you would like to install the software. Generally the default directory is fine, unless you have a special directory structure of your own.

Be sure to turn off your browser after installing webplayer.

That's it! Restart your browser and proceed to any Course Material page that requires Authorware and Work away!
