Trip to a Remote Village

On our third trip to Peru we had the opportunity to travel to a village located at 15,000 that was a two day horse-back ride from the nearest road, to meet those people and work with the paq'os of that area.

Greeting

Paq'os and others come to greet us at camp.

Opening Hearts

The next morning I grab a cup of coffee and a spot in the morning sun to write in my journal. I look up, and there is a young friend who has come to camp to check us out. We spent the next half hour huddled together watching the day begin. It is hard to explain why, but this was a high-point of my research in Peru.

Relationships come first, the village and the travelers have a meeting.

Relationships, this is what the trip (in both the large and small sense) is really all about.

The next morning clouds rise into the mountains from the jungle as we climb to the site of our karpay (initiation ceremony)

A mystical moment on the way back from the karpay.
