Each day, you probably make hundreds of decisions. Everything from
"what should I wear today" to "what do I want for dinner" entails
our understanding the factors which may influence those choices. Here
at the University of Utah, several of our faculty study attitudes
and decision making. The approaches and topics vary how attitude accessibility
affects the choices we make; how we can get people to reduce the use
of toxic chemicals, use mass transit, or recycle; how stigmatization
plays a role in information processing; and how people respond to
lawyers or politicians who attempt to "steal thunder" as
a persuasive technique. The resulting research programs and course
offerings provide numerous exciting and innovative possibilities to
students at all levels, some of which are listed below. In addition,
we get together bi-weekly for informal research discussions as part
of an ongoing research group.
