Clinical & Developmental

The Program in Clinical-Developmental Psychology offers students the opportunity to integrate developmental and clinical perspectives in psychology. This interdisciplinary program focuses on both understanding change processes and facilitating psychological development. The program is designed to be flexible in the sense that students may choose from several interdisciplinary areas of study including: (a) the social development of children and the treatment of socially dysfunctional youth, (b) sexual development and the treatment of sexual dysfunction and deviance, (c) adult development and clinical work with adults, and (d) interpersonal developmental processes and interpersonal approaches to intervention.
Students in this program fulfill the core academic and practical requirements for both the APA-accredited clinical program and the developmental program. Typically, students in this program will have a primary advisor in one area and a secondary advisor in the other. While the requirements of this program are particularly demanding, the extra work will benefit students looking for a graduate education that emphasizes both breadth and depth, and encourages integrative approaches to the study of psychological function. Additionally, this program is well suited for students interested in the application of developmentally informed intervention. Developmental faculty participating in this program include Drs. Diamond, Berg, Fogel, Gelfand, Hartmann, Pasupathi, and Wainryb. Clinical faculty participating in this program include Alexander, Benjamin, Florsheim, Golding, Ingoldsby, Ozonoff, Strassberg, and Wiebe. Interested students are encouraged to check out the webpages of individual clinical and developmental faculty members.
