| The
Homework Section |
The homework section includes,
you guessed it, homework. You have two kinds of homework
to help you learn.
Practice Homework is not required. It is
a set of homeworks that you can download and print out.
Each practice homework has a handwritten answer key
showing all the steps in solving problems. These answer
keys are the same ones given out by instructors when they
teach the class in a classroom. The practice homework has
exactly the same form as the written midterm and final exams,
so it is an excellent way to get a feel for what the tests
will be like.
Web Homework is required. The web homework
will be completed and graded immediately online. You may
well need a scratch pad and calculator to get the answers
but you will enter the answers online.
Homework is a crucial part of your learning. Learning starts
when you study online multi-media materials; learning deepens
when you put the ideas into your own words by making notes
in the notes workbook. Homework continues this learning
process. It gives you a chance to apply this new knowledge
in a highly structured context where you get immediate feedback
about your answer and a brief description of the correct
way to solve the problem. Working on the homework will clarify
and solidify your knowledge.

WEB HOMEWORK
|
| |
All of the homework assignments are listed in an index. We
will show you how to get to that index later in this tutorial.
You start by choosing one of the assignments and clicking on
it.
|
 |
| |
On every question, your name will appear at the top right of
the page. This will insure that you get credit for the
assignment. You will have to choose one answer, from the ones
which are located below the question or fill in a short answer.
After you have answered, click the "Evaluate" button
to check your answer.
|
 |
| |
After you press the evaluate button, you will be shown if you
have the question correct by a thumbs up or thumbs down symbol.
It will then give you feedback on how the correct answer
was arrived at. Once you're done, press the "Proceed"
button to go to the next question.
|
 |
| |
The questions can be both multiple choice, as shown in the
above pictures, and fill in the blank, as shown in the picture
to the right. |
 |
| |
Once you have completed all the questions, the final screen
allows you to hand the homework in. It will tell you the percentage
you got on the assignment, and once you click "Hand In",
your grade will be recorded. You may hand an assignment in as
many times as you wish. The best score will be counted. |
 |
|
In the grades tutorial, we you will show you how to check
how many homework assignments you have handed in and what
grade you got on each.
PRACTICE HOMEWORK
As we said, you are not required to do these Practice
Homeworks. They are here to give you another perspective
and to allow you to print out and look at problem sets.
One of the disadvantages of the Web Homework is that you
do one part of a problem and then go on; it is hard to look
at problems as a whole. Practice Homework gives you the
option of seeing a print out of problems along with a handwritten
answer key.
This graphic shows how a Practice Homework looks
after you download and print it.
All Practice Homeworks have handwritten Answer Keys
as part of the downloabable file.

This graphic shows an example of a hand written Answer
Key showing the details of correct answers to a Practice
Homework.
